Yapahuwa Kingdom

In the 13th centenary Ypahuwa became the capital of Sri Lanka. King Bhuvanekabahu I (1273-1284) built this great place as his kingdom. This is 145km away from Colombo & the height of rock is 90metres. We can consider this as a castle to protect from enemy raids. On the top of the rock there’s a cave temple was built for monks in the far away forest. It is said that the sacred Tooth Relic was brought from Dambadeniya to Yapahuwa for protect it. Today it is a most important historical site of Sri Lanka.
